A Third & Final Spring on Campus

Sadly this will be my final Spring and Summer at the University of Birmingham. It kind of feels over before it began, even though it has been 2 and a half years since I joined UoB. It leaves me with a few months to get around to all the things I should have got around…

Bournemouth & the New Forest

The New Forest has been on the agenda for well over a decade. It didn’t disappoint, it’s the kind of place you could spend all day getting lost – enjoying every second. On this occasion I only walked for a few hours, which was nonetheless rewarding. Bournemouth too was a treat, so much so that…

Keepin’ Movin’

Another workout featuring back-to-back sets of big weights and cardio. The main summer holidays are not far away and I’m mildly stressed about the lack of consistent progress.

Trying to progress

Here’s another snapshot of my trying to push forward in 2024, despite it’s many obstacles. Hopefully progress will come easier as the year rolls on.

Digital Nomading in Glasgow and the Highlands

I’m no stranger to life on the road, having had a part-time driving job (amongst others) during my PhD. At this point in my life and career I am growing accustomed to an alternate digital version of work whilst wondering. Why not get about? For much of my time a laptop, smart phone and WIFI…

Eygpt: Giza & Cairo

I managed to snatch a few days in this astonishing place – a good while before things flared up again in Israel and Gaza. The pyramids hardly lack for hype but they live up to it, exceed it even. Gaza and Cairo are hot and fast moving places. They are well equipped to exhaust haggle…

A crazy-busy 3 days rounded off with a show

It’s not a show that anyone under 40 would remember and it’s their loss. Drop the Dead Donkey was a forerunner to the now omnipresent “mock the news” format. Everything that’s come after follows in its footsteps… So this show is a new stage production, 30 years on from the original TV run. It was…

A fine night at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham

If it’s good enough for Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp it’s good enough for me and the fine people of Birmingham Business School. The Grand Ballroom has a fine reputation and I can see why – it’s spectacular. It was a night for our students and rightly, they were the stars of the show.

Weekend workout #2

Even though I ached a bit from the day before, I pressed on and did what I could for 45 minutes. Chest and shoulders were the main focus. I alternated between resistance moves and 1-minute HIIT sets to get the heart pumping. Every. Little. Counts.
