One of the best things about classical music concerts is that the star attraction is often upstaged by someone that you’re less familiar with. I attended to see Sibelius symphony 5 performed live. It was astonishing, and yet it was given a run for it’s money by two other performances on the schedule: the world premier of Freya Waley-Cohen’s Demon (see review below) and Stravinsky’s Petrushka, as performed by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra. This is the title of Birmingham City university’s music school performers – although these were no trainees, they were incredible! These weren’t students they were young masters in the making. All students should go take a look at what their peers are achieving through hard work. I was inspired, you would be too.
