2021 Ride #4, Saturday 5th June.

I went out at peak heat and repeated Ride #1 of 2021: exactly the same distance and route. I was 1.5 mph faster, which doesn’t sound much but is when you think about it. 💭 I’m no faster downhill (one has to think about safety on narrow country roads) so it’s all based upon extra…

Ride #2 2021

So I got out again at the weekend. It was one of those frustrating rides where I performed better than last time but it didn’t show up in the metrics. Such is life, progress is always a few steps forward followed by a few steps back, especially when you’re the wrong side of 40. 🙄

At last: a Sunday road warrior session

I’m not typically a fair weather cyclist but getting out in the off-season simply wasn’t an option this year. Today was the big opportunity so I got out and got 20 miles in. Didn’t feel too bad, although not especially good either. It’s a start though, back on the horse 🏇

My usual cycling lanes just named amongst “top 5 rides in the UK”

It speaks volumes about how you take what is in your own backyard for granted, although I daresay I’m less guilty than most. I have ridden these roads 100s of times, especially when I worked in Stratford. Can’t wait to get back out there 🚴

First ride of autumn proper

Oh this starting a new job thing is all consuming! Well, almost all consuming – I managed to get in a ride this afternoon. Otherwise the whole weekend was a matter of ticking off the boxes. Anyway, it was a better performance than I expected. I didn’t push particularly hard but clocked up a comfortable…

Dr. Fix It

I’m not one to show off about my endless achievements but this one takes the biscuit: I fixed a bike pedal all by myself! It had become “crunchy” (that’s the actual technical term) – rather than spinning freely and easily in its socket it became stiff and well, crunchy. It was pointed out by the…

Showing a little love

Yet another beautiful day today so I took the opportunity to get outdoors and clean my road bikes. 🙂🚲 My BMC was serviced yesterday too so she’s been well and truly pampered in the last few days.

Last blast of summer

This weekend delivered a warm wave (perhaps better than a heat wave for cycling purposes) so I pulled out the newly repaired Thundergoat and hit the roads. I still managed to self-sabotage, forgetting to strap up my knee. It definitely slowed me down became reluctant to attack, especially on the hills. Nonetheless, an enjoyable ride…

“Get on your bike”

Where does the time go?! A few things happen and the next thing I know I haven’t been on a bike ride for 4 or 5 weeks. I didn’t plan this ride, I just woke up to a nice day and thought “get on your bike.” I wasn’t fast, I wasn’t feeling good (a painful…

20 miles in the heatwave

Whenever I’ve got loads on (which is pretty much all the time) bike rides seem to be one of the easiest things to cut. With another job interview/assessment around the corner I’m not going to be able to do all my workouts this week. I made sure I got one ride in though, even if…
