I’ve lived a long life and accumulated a wardrobe that’s as extensive as my shoe collection.
I’m determined to avoid having a large portion of it tucked away and inaccessible in storage—as has so often been the case in years gone by. Dead space costs just as much as used space, so I decided it was time to put my third-floor stairwell to work.
My suits now have a dedicated home, easily reachable from the third-floor landing.
Admittedly, it’s unconventional—but that’s exactly what I love about it. The entire top floor is essentially my bedroom, though it’s spread across four rooms with a large cupboard and the stairwell right in the centre.
That stairwell has now become a cool part of the greater whole, with a black industrial theme emerging throughout. It started unintentionally, but it’s now a conscious design direction—and one I’m genuinely excited about.
I’ll quickly add that this tricky bit of DIY was only possible due to a flash all-purpose ladder I recently acquired. There’s pictures of me putting said ladder to work further down.
