No words can describe – in ’23 I have seen two contenders for the world’s greatest living composer. Hans Zimmer’s Manchester show was amazing in June and Ludovico Einaudi simply refused to be upstaged in Birmingham. It started soft and meditative (one man and piano) but after about an hour the strings and other instruments were added, contributing layers and texture you’ll never forget. There’s a poignancy, a desperate longing and a life affirming quality that makes you feel alive and yet guilty for not making more of it. It makes you want to live and experience life with the passion and emotion the music evokes. It’s not soup for the soul, it’s a genius hitting you with a much needed musical sledgehammer.
Thank you Ludovico for bringing beauty to this post-industrial dystopia.
