As I’m sure you all know Prosecco exploded in the UK in 2008. Don’t get me wrong it was readily available before but few paid it much attention. Then the recession hit and the masses went looking for an alternative to Champagne. Prosecco became the popular choice and soon after the default choice of fizz lovers in the UK.
In the meantime Cava has sat on the shelves unloved and this is an absolute scandal! Whilst the price of decent Prosecco has increased considerably over the last decade the price of Cava has stagnated. The mousse is generally superior to Prosecco and the palate is far more complex as a rule.
At £3.29 per bottle (on its 1 week promotion, starting today), I absolutely love LIDL’s Cava Arestel brut. In fact I love it so much I bought a year’s supply!
