Diet reflections #2

I haven’t weighed myself so far this week, I’m planning to do so tomorrow so that I know where I am likely to land on my official weigh-in day – Saturday.

I have mixed emotions presently, on the one hand I feel lighter on my feet but on the other I am concerned. My calorie burn has not been as high this week as in the prior two. The inevitable has happened: an out-the-blue tight deadline has trapped me at my desk. This has meant no direct (gym sessions, cycling) or indirect (gardening) workouts.

Before I found out about the tight deadline (for Monday 8th) I had already decided to reduce my calorie deficit target to -2,000kcal per day. It was fortunate that I did because without hard workouts it is as good as impossible. I might be able to scrape -2,000 per day so long as I snatch active moments here and there and keep the diet tight. So far this week my average is -2,300kcal per day thanks to a big deficit on Monday. That should counterbalance lower ones Wednesday to Friday.

In all probability work requirements are going to increase over the next few months, not steadily but in fits and starts. I’m used to being “full-time plus” so merely being full-time has been a relative blessing. I have to be realistic about the imminent future when I set goals and establish targets. My new calorie deficit target is realistic, and is likely to prove effective based on recent experience. Once Monday 8th is out of the way I will then focus my attention on my training schedule, starting out with a 3 week test-and-learn period.
